Temuka is situated on State Highway 1, 19 kilometres north of Timaru, with a population of 4,000 people.

Waimate is half an hour’s drive south-west of Timaru and has an urban population of just over 2,800. The town services the rural hinterland and the main street’s 50-odd shops are housed in original Edwardian premises.

Located 160km south of Christchurch and 200km north of Dunedin, and with a population of about 27,000 the port city of Timaru is the region's main urban centre.
